I received a call today from Pete Williams who is leading a community initiative in the Upper Murray area. He is sourcing water tanks and installing them for remote farmers and communities that have been fire affected. He is wanting to know if there are any forms in the East Gippsland region that would like to participate in this. If anyone knows of any farmers in the outlying regions around Mallacoota, Cann River, etc please let me know.
I’m still waiting for confirmation from Rotary about providing a community trailer for Mallacoota. Hopefully, I will pick it up next weekend.
The latest from the VEC regarding the election for the community association is below; Dear Candidate I am writing to advise you that the extraction and count of ballot papers (count activities) for the Mallacoota and District Recovery Association Committee election will be held at the Victorian Electoral Commission’s (VEC’s) headquarters in Melbourne on Wednesday, 20 May 2020, commencing at 9.00 am.
Responding to the COVID-19 pandemic The VEC is guided by official advice from the Victorian Government in relation to the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19). The health and wellbeing of our staff and the broader community we serve remains our highest priority. In response to official advice from Victoria’s Chief Health Office and following the need for Victorians to practice social distancing the we are adapting the way we work.
For this reason, we will be hosting the count activities online, using Cisco Webex from 9.00 am on Wednesday, 20 May 2020. Appointed scrutineers will be provided with details on how to connect to Cisco Webex and join the event to observe the count activities.
Count plan 9:00 am – 9:10 am Scrutineer briefing 9:10 am – 12:30 pm Opening ballot envelopes and extracting ballot papers 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm Data entry of ballot papers into computer count application 4:45 pm – 5:00 pm Calculation and announcement of election results
Please note that the times shown above for each task are an estimate only and may vary slightly on the day.
All candidates will be notified by email of the result of the election as soon as possible after the completion of counting.
Scrutineers Each candidate may appoint one scrutineer to observe the count activities by connecting to Cisco Webex and joining the event using a link. Candidates cannot act as a scrutineer.
If you wish to appoint a scrutineer, please complete the attached appointment form and provide it to your scrutineer to complete and return to me. Completed scrutineer forms should be sent to my email address email@example.com. I will accept a scan or photo of a completed scrutineer appointment form but it must be signed by both the candidate and the scrutineer.
Scrutineer appointment forms can be lodged with me at any time up until the commencement of the count. However early lodgement would be appreciated as this will ensure that I can send the link to the scrutineer and deal with any queries prior to the commencement of the count on Wednesday 20 May.
Once I have received the appointment form, I can send details to the scrutineer’s email address on how to connect to Cisco Webex along with the link to the count activities event.
At 9.00 am on Wednesday 20 May, I will provide a briefing for scrutineers and answer any questions about the process. Once the briefing is concluded, scrutineers can choose to exit the count activities event and rejoin at any time during the scheduled activities.
